If Ghostery's filters are failing and you want to switch to or augment them with AdGuard, you can use custom "User rules" to manually block elements or trackers. [1, 2]

AdGuard Filter Syntax (Prompts)

You can add these rules in the User rules or Custom filters tab of your AdGuard settings: [1, 3, 4]

• Block a specific domain (similar to Ghostery tracker blocking):
  ||example.com^
  This blocks everything from that domain.
• Block a specific script or tracker:
  ||://tracker-provider.com
  The $script modifier ensures only the script is blocked.
• Hide a specific visual element (Annoyance blocking):
  example.com##.popup-overlay
  Uses CSS selectors to hide elements like popups.
• Block third-party requests only:
  ||doubleclick.net$third-party
  Prevents trackers from loading when they aren't on their own site. [5, 6, 7]

Fixing Ghostery/AdGuard Issues

If your filters aren't working, it’s often due to a conflict or a stale cache:

• Avoid Running Both Simultaneously: Using AdGuard and Ghostery together can cause "white spaces" or filter conflicts. It is recommended to choose one.
• Update Your Filters: Force an update in AdGuard by clicking the gear icon → Filters → Check for updates.
• Enable Stealth Mode: If you miss Ghostery’s privacy features, enable AdGuard's Tracking Protection (Stealth Mode) to automatically block trackers and remove tracking parameters from URLs.
• Clear DNS Cache: If a new rule isn't applying, clear your browser's DNS cache (e.g., chrome://net-internals/#dns for Chrome) to ensure the block takes effect. [8, 9, 10, 11, 12]

For advanced protection, you can subscribe to third-party lists like those found on [GitHub Gist](https://gist.github.com/darthvader666uk/ccfdab18b9d59830876c373db8b4210d) which are optimized for DNS-level blocking of streaming ads and aggressive tracking. [13]

I couldn't reproduce the issue — AdGuard and Ghostery work fine simultaneously on my end.

If AdGuard filters reset every time, please reinstall the extension. This is a known Firefox storage issue.

Could you please export and send the settings for both AdGuard and Ghostery?
