Seeking Developers for Cutting-Tool Path Algorithms: Corner & Closure Compensation for Plotters

Hello Clipper2 community,

I am looking for developers or computational geometry experts with experience in polygon/polyline offset algorithms, specifically applied to cutting machine or vinyl plotter toolpaths. The goal is to implement safe and precise toolpath generation for cutting machines.

I am focusing on two main tasks:

1️⃣ Corner Compensation (Blade Offset)

• When the cutter reaches an acute corner, it cannot simply follow a perfect semicircular path.
• This is because the cutter is a drag-style tool (拖刀), with physical width and orientation constraints.
• Corner compensation adjusts the path so the tool tip follows the intended trajectory without gouging the material or colliding with the adjacent path.

2️⃣ Closure/closed Compensation (Over Cut)

• The cutter is cylindrical, and the tool's geometric center is not the same as the cutting edge.
• Without compensating for this, closed paths will not truly close, leaving small gaps in the cut.
• Closure compensation ensures that the toolpath accounts for the cutter’s physical dimensions and closes properly.

Additional context:

• Experience with Clipper/Clipper2 libraries or polygon offsetting is useful, but this is specifically for cutting toolpath generation rather than generic polygon math.
• Programming languages: C++, C#, Delphi, Python, Java, JavaScript.
