Hi @ndbroadbent thanks for researching and providing the suggestion from the http-parser gem! There is no arch specification in this gem, so I don't believe that is the issue.

This gem uses the ruby standard library mkmf gem to automatically create a Makefile used for compilation during the gem build process. It would be very helpful to see the generated Makefile, if you could run the following and respond with the output of this command:

git clone https://github.com/AnomalousBit/ascii85_native.git ; cd ascii85_native/ext/ascii85_native ; ruby extconf.rb ; cat Makefile

It's my best guess at the moment that mkmf is incorrectly generating the Makefile with an incorrect architecture, for example mine is arch = x86_64-linux. Also if you run gem build from the cloned git repo, it should tell you more details about any failure in compiling the native library (the ascii85_native.so object file that is missing in your error message).

Last but not least, you could build the gem yourself following the directions in the README.md file, using the rake compile method described in the Testing section should let you compile the .so file, and gem build will try to create the gem on your local machine, which you could then install manually using gem install ... if it completes successfully.

I manually generated the file .so and moved it to the lib directory in gem
