Horizontal scroll bar hidden behind buttons

Since the latest update, sadly, the horizontal scroll bar disappears behind the navigation bar with the buttons. This makes navigating the pdf document only possible one page at a time (left/right) and is quite tedious.

Not sure what the best solution would be, as google pushes this "edge to edge" layout. Not an android expert, but some applications keep the buttons, some make the buttons disappear, and some (like mupdf now) make the navigation bar transparent. When I then tap inside the document, the mupdf title bar is comes down from the top, and the mupdf scroll bar appears behind the android navigation bar.

This is really annoying, no idea exactly what version it started, but the bug is still present in 1.26.11.

I think that the best option is to make the app fullscreen, hiding the buttons, or leave the scroll bar below (or inside) the top bar

That's all on Google or Samsung or whoever breaking backwards compatibility in their Android OS update. Nothing in MuPDF viewer (other than recompiling the exact same code for a newer Android) has changed to cause that behavior to appear.

I seems to be that this bug has only appeared on Samsung so far. What phone and Android OS are you seeing this on @fagnerln?

@artifex-tor apologies if my first text was not well-phrased enough (and not implying that you did anything wrong, as you said, the complaint was mostly against what they are pushing). Xiaomi user here. My guess is that this will happen more and more. Some people are using gesture navigation and won't be affected. Without knowing too much about what is possible, some (like F-Droid) have the content above the buttons only. Droid-ify shows content behind the navigation bar also, so tapping on the last entry is not possible, and some (assuming it is the full screen mode?) hide the navigation and the top bar. For short files it is a non-issue, but for 600+ pages documents, the scroll bar is quite useful. Also glad to help if you feel that this should be addressed.

Same bug here on Pixel 7 running GrapheneOS Android 16 fresh install.
On Pixel 4 running Graphene OS Android 13 with the same Mupdf version (1.26.11a) works perfect.

I can confirm this behavior on both Pixel 7 with Android 16 and Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE with Android 16.

@artifex-tor the Edge2Edge changes applying to who uses SDK 35+ as target SDK version. Since this project using 35 as target SDK, the project maintainer needs to integrate Edge2Edge in the app. And another note: Don't try to reduce the target SDK version instead of fixing it, the users will need to reinstall the app and this behavior can change at the future.

We're testing a fix right now.

Unfortunately Google forced everyone to target SDK 35 in order to update their apps on the google play store; so we had to upgrade, even though there's nothing in the app that actually requires a newer SDK target version (or we'd be happy targeting as far back as SDK 21) -- with the resulting fun times to be had scrambling to see what backward compatibility they broke this time.

@artifex-tor there's only one massive change you need to check: the Edge2Edge support. Google was added a bypass in Androıd 15 and it was enabled over styles but it was just for giving some time for developers to adapt the Edge2Edge changes. If you tried the styles trick instead of fixing the Edge2Edge support, it was just a cheap attempt and not working on Android 16+.

Fixed on the last 1.27.0 version https://mupdf.com/releases?product=MuPDF. Not yet on f-droid.

By far, mupdf is the best PDF reader.
