I am also experiencing this issue. As a work around I was able to set the version to 2.36.0 using az extension add -n ml --version 2.36.0
The issue seems to be with version 2.36.1

Im also running into this issue, and for my usecase, downgrading the 2.36.0 does not work as I'm trying to update models and endpoints in ML studio. Im prompted to download 2.36.1 but get this error

Error loading command module 'ml': No module named 'azure.cli.core.help_files'
No module named 'azure.storage.fileshare'
The command requires the extension ml. Do you want to install it now? The command will continue to run after the extension is installed. (Y/n): y
Run 'az config set extension.use_dynamic_install=yes_without_prompt' to allow installing extensions without prompt.
Extension 'ml' 2.36.0 is already installed.
It will be overridden with version 2.36.1.
An error occurred whilst updating.
The checksum of the extension does not match the expected value. Use --debug for more information.
Failed to update. Rolled ml back to 2.36.0.

I have debugged the "No module named" error, but each time I am prompted to upgrade
