Modular Systems causes crash during initialization

UCHE modularsystems{2.2.1} [Modular Systems] (ModularSystems-1.7.10-2.2.1-B18.jar)
I've tried downloading and reinstalling this one mod manually, to no avail. Removing the storage portion like the script says on this git doesn't fix it. I wanted to check with the original author of the mod, but I'd prefer to check here first. Can I get any help here?

I did talk to the mod author, and he said that there was a problem with writing to the modular systems config. Not sure if that's a mod issue or a pack issue.
