If the DSM2 modifier is more than 20 characters or so, when the fingerprinting simulations are run, the F-PART gets truncated. When we had a long DSM2 modifier, our fingerprinting results ended up with the F-PART so truncated, that the F-PART became the same for several locations, and the first record written was subsequently overwritten. Luckily we caught the error before the analysis was completed, but it did cause big hassles with the project and our coordination with other groups.
The solution may be adding a comment to the configuration file that the DSM2 modifier be 20 characters or less. Also add a warning to the DSM2 output.
In addition check if longer F PARTs are possible in HECDSS. They may have updated the limit to be longer in which case we should use that limit.
