[DMP 2024]: A Comprehensive Mobile App for Cancer Patients and Caregivers #5

Description

@Vanshikabhatotia

Description

Cancer patients and their caregivers face numerous challenges throughout the treatment journey, including managing treatment plans, appointments, side effects, and accessing reliable information and support.

Key design-research questions

How can we develop a mobile app that comprehensively supports cancer patients and their caregivers by providing tools for managing treatment plans, appointments, symptoms, and fostering a sense of community, while ensuring accessibility and usability for diverse users? Keeping in mind the project timeline, V0 can focus on side effect and appointment management.

Current State

Existing resources for cancer patients may lack comprehensive features or accessibility, leading to fragmented support and difficulty in managing the treatment journey effectively. In countries like USA/UK, cancer journals/planners are available. In India, we don’t have anything even for physical documentation. Patients rely on their own noting down methods.

Desired State

Our goal is to create a mobile app that empowers cancer patients and caregivers by providing a user-friendly interface with features such as diagnosis plan customization, appointment tracking, report management, symptom/side effect tracking, community support, and educational resources. The app aims to streamline the treatment journey, enhance communication with healthcare providers, and foster empowerment and community support.

Keeping in mind the project timeline, V0 will focus on appointment tracking and side effect management. The final version of the app will have 3 interfaces - desktop mode- back end for the admin, Mobile mode- for the patients for the data to be filled up, desktop mode- for the doctors to access the analysed data. For the DMP 2024 project, primary focus will be on the patients’ side.

Goals & Mid-Point Milestone

  1. Conduct user interviews and surveys to understand the needs and pain points of cancer patients and caregivers.
  2. Design wireframes and prototypes based on user feedback, ensuring accessibility and usability.
  3. Develop core features of the app, including patient onboarding form, appointment tracker, and side effect management.
  4. Conduct usability testing with target users to gather feedback for further iterations.

Acceptance Criteria

  1. Dummy versions for Appointment tracking and side effect management are finalized
  2. Roadmap/framework for integrating other features is established
  3. A report summarizing key findings and recommendations

Existing Mockups/Wireframes

Our organization has been working with cancer patients for 8 years. We have designed a cancer planner for the patients. However, we don’t have an e-version yet. If selected, we can share the first design of the planner (yet to be launched).
