Is map analysis the same with the network analysis that we are going to do in the homework?

I was quite confused about the wordings for map analysis and network analysis. Map analysis examines both concepts and relationships between them. Are we doing similar things in network analysis? Are we also doing proximity, semantic or concordance analysis? But it seems that in the "Weaving the fabric of science" article, the network analysis is more complicated than what I read in the map analysis.
