How to enable screen blanking/energy saving

In good ole X11, you can use "xset dpms && xset s 600" to tell X to blank out the screen after 5 minutes of inactivity. This is great for saving power and turning off the display at night when you're trying to sleep.

ArchRiot has a yes, BEAUTIFUL screen lock that turns on after a while, but the screen stays on even so. So annoying! How can it be turned off after x minutes?

Hyprland Wiki is your friend.

Hyprland is changing really fast (the reason it didn't ship with Debian 13) so some things will need to be looked on the wiki coz it might be a "last week" change.

The link above goes straight to the Hyprlock part, where the screen blank should happen. Hope it helps. (its video-card dependent, so you need to set sleep for your current stack)

Thanks, @surtarso -- but I had tried mod'ing the conf file already, and there's really no setting I can see to actually TURN OFF the display. The only tweak I saw was a brightness level for blurring, not the entire monitor.

This is waaay more complicated than it needs to be.

Thats my bad, I pointed you to hyprlock, but hyprlock actually uses hypridle (the sleep part) here:

@surtarso , thanks but I already had modified the hypridle.conf file with this:

on-timeout = /usr/bin/bash -lc '[ -x /usr/bin/brightnessctl ] && /usr/bin/brightnessctl -q -s set 1%'

...and really, it did nothing for me. I'll go back and try setting the value to 0.

EDIT: I just changed the above line to 0 and walked away long enough for both the "dimming" timeout (300) and the lock timeout (600) to have occurred. The monitor was not blanked/blacked out.
