Many thanks to Jasmin Hartanto for bringing my attention to the data science M.Sc. from RWTH Aachen.

A closer look at RWTH Aachen SE curricula reveals the Computer Science B.Sc. teaches skills that overlap with RSE core competencies. From my perspective, relevant modules include:

  • scientific working (literature search, scientific presentation, 4 ECTS)
  • applied stochastics (statistics, probability distributions, 6 ECTS)
  • elements of machine learning and data science
  • software project: collaborative development of a complex yet modular application, with structured documentation, testsuite, and final presentation (6 ECTS)
  • mentoring (elective module, 4 ECTS)
  • elective modules on CS and sometimes domain-specific CS topics (18 to 24 ECTS), must be picked from a list actualized every semester, e.g. from the 2025/2026 list: software quality assurance, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, data analysis and visualization, data science, HPC
  • elective modules on "several application subjects" from non-CS curricula (12 to 18 ECTS), see eligible domains
  • "skills in abstraction, model building, problem analysis and transferability" (from Program Structure)

I have not included the following curricula from RWTH Aachen, as they are predominantly SE-oriented:

Other resources of interest, but which aren't degree-awarding on their own:
