Join the Community

The purpose of this community document is to serve as a resource for the DIA Design Guild community (builders and contributors)

If you're interested in join the DIA Design Guild network, apply to join the Volunteer/Freelance Network.

New to the Guild Checklist

  • 1 Join as a volunteer, contributor, or apprentice
  • 2. Join the DIA Design Guild Discord Server
  • 3. Level up your membership status
  • 4. Contribute to the community

Step 1. Join the Guild

People in the Guild may be advisors, mentors, apprentices.

We're considering opening up the server to include supporters and friends who financially contribute to DIA and to encourage contributions in other ways.

Step 2. Join us on Discord

We have an official DIA Design Guild Discord server

We also manage the San Gabriel Valley User Experience (SGVUX) Discord server for monthly events that are open to the public.

Step 3. Level up your membership

  1. Attend a SGVUX monthly event, happy hour or DIA event
  2. Share, repost, retweet on social media
  3. Help others out by giving feedback, answering questions, mentoring
  4. Check out other ways to support DIA. We have many initiatives that we're working on and would appreciate the help.

Levels on Discord are assigned by server roles

  • admins (usually DIA staff)
  • mentors
  • apprentices
  • supporters (those who give in support of any DIA initiative)
  • sponsors (those who sponsor a DIA initiative)
  • partners (those who we work with to develop the apprentice program)

Step 4. Contribute on Discord

Help fellow community members, provide feedback, share job postings on Discord to elevate your status in the server

There's a fun Discord bot who we've named "Deya". It's the phonetic name for DIA, 德雅

  • 德 (dé), meaning virtue, morality (source
  • 雅 (yǎ), meaning elegance, refined (source)

Deya the bot randomly showers people with experience points as they interact on the server.
