Browsing by Author returns no results for valid author search term

Describe the bug

The Browse by Author feature does not return expected results when searching for a valid author name. For example, entering "Muriel" produces no data. I think the search overall should be improved - it is not really user friendly.

Observed on sandbox.dspace.org (10.0) and demo.dspace.org (9.x)
Note: It seems that first names in general do not return search results, only last names.

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Go to Browse by Author.
2. Enter "Muriel" in the author search field.
3. Submit the search or wait for results.

Expected behavior

Relevant author records matching "Muriel" should be displayed.
