Open-Assistant has an API that could be leveraged by the bot:

This looks like a very robust API that will probably take some time to integrate. Posting this here for later.

I was thinking about that as a good alternative as well. For local hosting I am also going to look at this: . It supposedly can take the place of an openai api call and point to a local model but still work with all the code that uses the opanai api call.
