Restarting Dynamo

please inform me what to do correctly when asked to reboot Dynamo. It appears it needs a reboot of Revit also. Just say so. Thank you.

Yes - Revit or any other host application will also need to be completely restarted.

This is because the libraries used by Dynamo are also owned by the host application - and as a result when Revit crashes Dynamo does as well. But when Dynamo crashes (or closes) the files which Revit (or Civil 3D) had to take ownership of are not released as Revit (Civil) is still active. As such when you restart Dynamo Revit sees the previously active files and just keeps using them, even though the crash likely put them in a bad state. The same logic is why it is recommended to restart your CPU when troubleshooting any software issue - make sure all the files are not in use.

In my experience Civil is actually quite likely to crash immediately after the restart of Dynamo as a result. Revit tends to be more forgiving.
