Invalid option error with installer on MacOS

installer orbic from a MacOS terminal gets an invalid option error, so I am not sure how to convert the device into an IMSI detector

What is the full command you are running, and which tutorial are you following?

I was executing this command from the Terminal of an Intel Mac:
installer orbic --admin-password 'mypassword'

I was reading this page:

I downloaded the ZIP for Mac Intel.

Can you please give the full error message and also the output of installer --version? I believe you are using an old installer binary.

I downloaded what appears to be the latest release:

The error simply stated that orbic was an invalid option.

I can turn on the Mac and do whatever is necessary to flash the device for IMSI detection.

Can you please give me the output of ./installer --version?

I don't have the Macbook turned on at the moment to get any output. As I mentioned, the installer command outputs a statement indicating that "orbic" is not a valid option.

When I try to execute the command: installer --version (I get an error)

MacBookPro:rayhunter-v0.11.1-macos-intel daviddubroff$ installer --version
installer: invalid option --version

You need to execute the command ./installer orbic --admin-password 'mypassword'

That ./ at the start of the command is very important, it tells the system to run the installer in that directory instead of installer which is a global command in macos.
