Gbak Issue: Error Reading Data When Upgrading to Firebird 5

Hello everyone.
When transitioning from Firebird 2.5 to Firebird 5, I encountered a problem where gbak always returns the error "ERROR: Error reading data from the connection."

The databases were created from the same .fbk file, but one is under Firebird 2.5 and the other one under Firebird 5.
On two servers, I am running the same command to create a backup, but Firebird 2.5 executes it without errors, while Firebird 5 creates a working backup but always returns the error "ERROR: Error reading data from the connection" afterwards.

The commands to start the backup creation are:
1) Firebird 2.5: gbak -b -g -v -user SYSDBA -pas masterkey -se localhost/3050:service_mgr "C:\Bases\Base_25.FDB" "C:\Bases\Base_25.FBK"
2) Firebird 5: gbak -b -g -v -user SYSDBA -pas masterkey -se localhost/3055:service_mgr "C:\Bases\Base_5.FDB" "C:\Bases\Base_5.FBK"

What is exact FB5 version ?

I tried with a later version. Now it's Firebird-5.0.2.1614.

Is it reproducible with current snapshot build ?

Could you check if server crashed at the end of the backup ?
If yes, could you provide full memory dump of crashed process ?
Or provide database for investigation, if possible.

If I understood you correctly, then no, the server doesn't crash; I can run gbak one after another, but the result remains the same.

P.S. I deleted the data from the tables, so the size of the database has decreased, but the error remains.

Firebird 2.5:

Firebird 5.0.2.1614:

gbak: ERROR:Error reading data from the connection.
gbak:Exiting before completion due to errors

I can't reproduce it. Please, answer:

• you run x64 fb2.5 and win32 fb5 - is it intentionally ?
• do you run both servers at the same time or one by one ?
• fb5 configured as Classic, could you try SS or SC ?
• do you run firebird as service or as application ?
• any messages in firebird.log (of both versions) ?

1. Firebird 5 is also x64; it was just placed in the "Program Files (x86)" folder. I've already worked through this option—the problem remains.
   

2. I tried two variations—both together and separately—the problem persists.

3. I tested all modes. This error persists in all of them.

4. Firebird is running as a service.

5. Firebird 2.5 does not contain any logs on this issue.

Indeed, it looks very similar.

Is it reproduced with FB5 embedded ? I.e. could you stop all FB instances and run gbak in embedded mode ?

When you wrote that you couldn't reproduce the problem, I realized that the issue was with the configuration.

I have now tried completely removing all Firebird versions from my computer and installing only Firebird 5. The error no longer appears.

As I understand it, the problem arises specifically from having multiple versions of Firebird installed. For example, if the second version is installed, an error message appears when installing Firebird 5.

Additionally, when this message appears, those two windows are not displayed. Could you please clarify if this was intended? And if so, what is the reason for it?

This is by design. The click through installer is only for installation of a single instance of firebird.
Configuration of a second instance of firebird is your responsibility.
