Which apps should have this feature?

All Fossify Apps

Feature description

Ensure that in every view of every Fossify app, the Menu key - be it internal or external - actually does open the menu.

Why do you want this feature?

Obviously, Fossify apps are mainly intended for touch use. However, keyboard accessibility is crucial for some, and should be provided at a basic level at least, to let keyboard users get along, and build later navigational improvements on a solid foundation.

Alas, as of e. g. Fossify Gallery 1.13.0, accessing the menu e. g. in the main folders list, flat media list, single folder listing, favorites or search results requires awkward, fickle Tab key sequences.
And in single picture view or internal video player, the menu can't be accessed by keyboard at all.(*)

Additional information

  • Following the advice given by @naveensingh , I'm re-filing this FR here to have the issue addressed in all Fossify apps.
  • Additional points to keep in mind (taking Fossify Gallery as example, but they apply to other Fossify apps, as well):
    • The top bar (including menu) in the main folders list view or flat media list view, as well as in single folder listings and search results, is auto focused, therefore generally accessible already. The downside there is that focus can't be transferred away from it to navigate, select or operate on specific folders or media.
    • Crucial interactive elements should generally get dedicated shortcuts of their own. Next to Menu, that's most importantly
      • Ctrl+F to focus the search input widget, and
      • Del to move media to the recycle bin.
    • A welcome side affect of being able to switch focus to the menu is that it may serve, for the time being, as an intermediary landing spot to then Tab your way to the remaining elements of the same widget bar. That's particularly helpful where the latter is inaccessible otherwise.
