[Feature Request] Near-real-time index update for external drives

In my understanding, currently, Cling indexes external volumes periodically using fd command. This mechanism has a delay depending on the interval. On the other hand, updates of the internal volume are reflected near-real-time thanks to the FS Events API.

Could it be possible to apply the same mechanism for external volumes if the file system is supported? I would like to have the same experience as the internal drive through external drives because I use external SSDs and HDDs for my main workspace.

I looked into this for the upcoming Cling v2 release.
FSEvents doesn't really support this. It could work on some external very fast SSDs formatted with Apple's filesystems, but it would also keep them constantly awake.
Unfortunately it's not a good option for external drives.

I'll look into kqueue as a possibility but I need to get me hands on some storage to test, I don't really use external storage.
