git clone https://github.com/koala73/worldmonitor.git
cd worldmonitor
npm install
npm run devOpen localhost:5173. No environment variables required for basic operation.
For variant-specific development:
npm run dev:tech # tech.worldmonitor.app
npm run dev:finance # finance.worldmonitor.app
npm run dev:commodity # commodity.worldmonitor.app
npm run dev:happy # happy.worldmonitor.appSee the self-hosting guide for deployment options (Vercel, Docker, static).
If you run WorldMonitor locally (for example on localhost:3030), the app itself works without login, but some panels can still show Pro, No data available, or similar placeholders.
- The public repository is designed to run in community/self-host mode by default.
- Some
Profeatures are tied to hosted infrastructure, paid quotas, or backend credentials that are not shipped in this repo. - Because of that, local Login/Sign-in actions may not unlock hosted-tier capabilities.
- Frontend Vite vars:
.env.local(VITE_*variables). - Edge/API secrets: deployment platform env vars (for example Vercel/Railway project settings).
- Never commit secrets to git.
- Upstream providers may rate-limit/geo-block/self-host block requests.
- Missing optional provider keys can disable certain endpoints.
- Some data sources are intentionally best-effort and degrade gracefully.
Yes. The project can be extended with additional webcam/data sources, but this is a code/config contribution (not only a UI toggle). Typical path:
- Add source configuration in shared/config files.
- Add or extend an API/domain endpoint.
- Wire hydration so bootstrap loads the new source.
- Add/adjust panel mapping in
src/configand component rendering.
- Safe approach: keep secrets in local env only, and use
.gitignored files. - Prefer feature flags for experimental/custom sources.
- Don’t commit private API URLs, tokens, or paid provider credentials.
If you want, create an issue or PR with a concrete webcam provider and expected schema, and we can help you wire it in cleanly.
