G'Mic filters and wayland

There seem to be problems with some G'Mic filters (used with GIMP).
For example, Extract Foreground works with Linux Mint (Cinnamon) or KDE under Linux X11, but not on the latest versions under Wayland.
It doesn't work with GNOME exclusively on Wayland (under Fedora).

But there are other filters with the same problems.
Have the G'Mic developers seen these problems, and are there any solutions for updating them? Indeed, some filters are unique and very useful, like Extract Foreground.

So, that is weird, because you indeed have the X11 flags enabled, and in this case, I don't see why opening a X11 display would be problematic...

From what I understand, it seems that this issue is related to XWayland (the X11-compatibility layer of Wayland) is either not installed, not active, or that does not accept G'MIC-Qt to open a X11 display.
Not sure what we can do from our side, probably nothing. You should report this bug to the Fedora maintainers and see if they have a suggestion to fix that.

That's what I suspected.
But I don't know anything about programming.

Gnome is no longer compatible with X11.

But KDE will do the same next year.

And all Unix desktop environments are switching to Wayland. Soon there won't be an Xwayland layer anymore, just like with Gnome.
If it's not possible to update some G'mic components, they won't work anymore.
That's a real shame.

G'MIC is also able to run with SDL3, rather than X11. As SDL3 is compatible with Wayland, in the future, we can expect that G'MIC will be compiled with SDL3 support for Wayland-based systems.
We are in a period of transition, but G'MIC is almost ready for the next step :)

I've said the SDL3 port is almost done. What remains to be done is mainly testing and then probably minor patches.
Why don't you compile the plug-in with the SDL3 feature enabled, test it, and report anything that has to be reported, to make some progress ?

I thought that compatibility with SDL3 (which I know nothing about), as you called it, was already implemented.

I'm trying to understand the intricacies of Linux distributions.
Being confined (for constant care and monitoring) with my partner who has Alzheimer's, I have time to study the possibilities offered by Linux.
I started using it at the decorating company where I worked, first with DOS and then Windows 1.
I experienced all the plantings while working.
I didn't switch to Linux quickly because of its command-line interface.

We migrated to Mac, which is better suited to graphic designers.
But their policy of perpetual replacement is unacceptable (from the 68000 to the M1)
with the abandonment of good software during migrations.

Now I only use Linux, but I have difficulties with all the possible versions
and recently I discovered the existence of X11 and Wayland.

For my personal use, I don't have a preference, but GNOME no longer works with X11.

I don't like KDE, which is too similar to Windows. I've tried enlightenment and Cinnamon.

After using Ubuntu, which crashed everything during an update, and then Manjaro, where there are dependency conflicts with AUR programs, I'm using Fedora, which works very well so far, but with GNOME, which don't works with X11 programs.
Therefore, I'm trying Linux Mint with cinnamon, but I've read that it will also switch to Wayland, just like KDE.
Furthermore, I prefer app images, which seem more reliable and universal than AURs, deb, rpm, Flatpak, and others for a simple Linux user.
