K1 SE Support (and what i need to edit to convert it to a K1C)

Hello, going to ask if the K1 SE is already supported?

and if anyone has any or some experience, what's needed to make it close to a K1C. I already have the two fans (rear fan and side blower) and the thermistor (a regular 100k ender 3 part which i think is correct/similar) and just wondering what to watch out in modding them back in to enable them.

FWIW, i enabled root and checked the stock printer.cfg and there's not much difference against the stock K1C config file, with the only difference is that the pin assignments for the two fans and the thermistor, and the temp control for the back fan being commented out.
Every other file seems to be the same (some even sharing names).

have not tested replacing the whole klipper using the helper yet but I already collected the three parts, and with the stock firmware/klipper i can make the chamber thermistor show up/actually work in the creality print details tab (doesnt show up in the web browser version), and enabling any of the fans on the web version crashes the printer (and had to do a full restore to get it back) so it seems there's still something to change with the stock firmware to get them to work.

PS: For the chamber temp it seems it's just a regular 100k thermistor. I used the one for the CR-6SE hotend which looks to be the right diameter but seems to be just a little longer.

In my case, I have both 2 fans, but cables seem to be quite short. I haven't managet to find a suitable extension cord, so I'm planning just cutting and soldering an extension. What did you do to get the cable to the mainboard?

In any case, I've been taking a look to the files too, It seems quite straightforward to add the thermistor and fans configuration, I haven't rooted yet, so I simply connected the lateral fan to the mainboard and tried managing it on the web browser. It didn't crashed but neither worked.

Anyway, I will do some testing during the weekend, I will report here any progress I make.

Well, just as an update @kcarbuncle . I've been adding both fans (waiting for the themperature sensor to arrive). I have arrived the same point as you.

I have tried updating the configuration files on
/usr/data/printer_data/config
/usr/share/klipper/config/K1_SE_CR4CU220812S12

That leads the printer to start throwing multiple exceptions anytime I touch anything related with fans (and with hotend motion too).

I will further investigate during next days (maybe I will manually install klipper from scratch as the next step, will see).

Well, after doing some tests, I've managed to get the side fan working with Klipper / Mainsail.

Chamber probe and chamber fan continue conflicting between them. Somebody that has the K1C could confirm to wich pins in the mainboard are them connected?

Somebody with more experience with Klipper could help with the pins conflict? I attach printer.cfg and printer_params.cfg that lead to this error when starting Klipper:

Related to side fan, all I've done to make it to work is to uncomment the "fan2" section on printer.cfg:

Ok, finaly working @kcarbuncle .

I had installed the Fans Control Macros from @Guilouz script helper (thanks for your work), and it was conflicting with default pin override on printer.cfg

I commented this 2 lines on default printer.cfg

# [duplicate_pin_override]
# pins: PC0, PC5

And now, fan1, fan2 and chamber temp probe are working fine.

I have uploaded on printables a remix from a previous fan duct from Rick Tucker to adapt the side fan to K1-SE:

Just copy the default K1C configuration files you will find on:
/usr/share/klipper/config/K1C_CR4CU220812S12/

Then, install the Fans Control Macros option from Helper Script.

On tools menú, activate the option to prevent Updating Klipper configuration files:

And then, reboot.

Once rebooted, go to
/usr/data/printer_data/config/printer.cfg

And check that file has all this includes on it:

It should work flawlessly, let us know.

As far as I have tested, yes, you can go ahead.

Once you have installed the chamber probe, the auxiliary fans and you enclose the printer, the printer is basically a K1C.

As far as I have found, we're the first ones getting K1-SE upgraded to K1C, I haven't found any other reference nowhere.

I also installed fans and a thermistor, installed walls, doors and the upper flap. I added a camera. You could say that it is transformed from k1se to k1c. I use orca sliker along with root and clipper. There you can regulate additional fans and see the chamber temperature. I want to modify the software so that additional fans and the chamber temperature are visible on the LCD printer panel. I wonder what should be changed in the printer software. I have both K1C and K1SE printers and if anyone is interested, the motherboard is identical in both.
I also modified two fans at the bottom, i.e. the power supply and the motherboard. The cutout in the power supply is the fan strainer and the lower flap fan strainer. The fans are practically inaudible due to the cut-out hole in the flap, I printed a cover that sucks air from the side holes, I can provide the STL

As it's not too important for me, I haven't looked into it, but it would be great if someone finds it.
It would also be interesting to see if it's possible to directly flash the K1-SE with the full K1C firmware, it will surely make things easier when CFS comes out for those who want to install it.

There is a flash connector on the motherboard, all that remains is the file and method. You don't have to mess around, just upload the software from k1c. The motherboards are physically identical. I have both printers myself and took pictures. k1se is now identical to k1c. Today my K1SE caught a bootlop, it only starts the startup animation three times and displays the creality inscription, nothing else can be done. The pendrive with the new software doesn't help, the pendrive blinks but nothing happens.
This happened after an update that reported itself via WiFi. Any ideas?

I tried installing the helper script on my K1SE, copied the K1C configs to my K1SE config file (/usr/share/klipper/config/K1C_CR4CU220812S12/ to /usr/data/printer_data/config/), but I don't have any of the fans or sensors the K1C has. Rather my K1SE is stock. I get a 2092 error or an MCU error, it varies, so I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions? Or do I forcibly have to buy the temp sensors and fans to have this work? I haven't tried commenting out the fans or sensors on my config file but I wanted to know if doing that would be pointless?

It looks like you are getting errors because you are not getting a response from the sensors you are looking for.

In any case, without having the hardware associated with the K1C, I don't see the point in upgrading the K1SE. What good is it to you?

I'm not necessarily looking to upgrade to the K1C configs, really I just wanted to add the helper script and fluidd so that I can more accurately level the bed and access settings and macros that don't come with the Creality interface already. ...And eventually when I deem it necessary convert it to a K1C, but considering I'm a beginner there's other things I can dabble with in the mean time.

I found a way to spoof k1se to k1c.

1.Edit blow file.(needed root)
/usr/data/creality/userdata/config/system_config.json
2.Change "model" in "device_info" 1011 to 1007.
3.Reboot and check system info on your K1SE

You can see back fan control and Chamber temperature on k1se screen.
I have not checked printing after spoofing. Please test your own risk.

I'm reading all of this and I don't understand these hardware mods that are being done. This thread is all over the place and no one has made a guide yet. I've got a boatload of questions... if anyone can help me, please do.

1. What fans are being used? There's two fans: the exhaust fan and the side/blower/aux fans, which are present on the k1c but not the k1 SE. From the comments, it appears that they both run at 24V, and the exhaust fan is 60mm. However, I can't confirm any more than that.

   • Is the exhaust fan 6025 24v model or 6015 24v model (i.e. 15 mm vs 25mm thickness). I've seen this, but this is for the control box not the exhaust: https://www.th3dstudio.com/product/k1-k1c-k1-max-control-box-fan-dual-ball-bearing-3-pin-pwm-fan-24v-6015-size/

   • What additional cabling, wire length, and connectors are required to get this to the main board?

2. What thermistor is used? I know it's a "generic 100K", but that's it.

   • Is it a "glass" type, or a "rod"/other type of thermistor?
   • There appears to be a clip in the center of the back of the unit to hang the thermistor on the chasis, right next to a cable run to the main board. Do I need to use this?
   • How long of cabling/ what connector do I need?

3. What do I do about the panels? If I need to mount a side blower, how do I mount them to these panels?

5. What happened to the air filter mount for the exhaust fan? How do I add that back in? I can't find any discussion on this. Where do I get the air filter

6. What are people doing for the lid? Currently I only see two STLs out there, but the lid itself is not sold as an extra spare part.

7. The camera can be bought for about 15 bucks on ebay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/364526020856?_trksid=p4375194.c101770.m146925) and can be hooked up to the pre-installed camera cable, hidden in the front left post of the printer.

I'm a little biased against buying custom cut acrylic side panels to fix up a K1 SE into a K1C, as the cost of those side panels and all other additional mods is similar to the cost simply of buying a K1C over a K1 SE.

Not sure yet on the connector for bed fan, I rigged up a custom solution for now. Cable lengths are about the height of the printer but you'll have to customize whatever fans you purchase as none have wires long enough.

Complete guide for upgrading a K1 SE to K1C

K1 SE to K1C steps

1. First install the two extra fans and thermistor.
   Rear exhaust 60x20mm 24v, 2 pin 2.5 mm JST XH-Style
   Bed blower (SOC) fan 120x32mm 24v, 2pin
   List of supported thermistors https://www.klipper3d.org/Config_Reference.html#common-thermistors

2. Install K1C config files
   cp /usr/share/klipper/config/K1C_CR4CU220812S12/* /usr/data/printer_data/config/

3. Update printer.cfg AND factory_printer.cfg with the correct Thermistor type. I used an NTC.
   Options include "EPCOS 100K B57560G104F", "ATC Semitec 104GT-2", "ATC Semitec 104NT-4-R025H42G", "Generic 3950", "Honeywell 100K 135-104LAG-J01", "NTC 100K MGB18-104F39050L32", "SliceEngineering 450", or "TDK NTCG104LH104JT1"

4. Update the sn_mac partition

SSH into the printer (requires root)

/usr/bin/get_sn_mac.sh model
Received value "K1 SE"

Read the partition number containing the info of the model:
fdisk -l | grep 'sn_mac' | awk '{print $1}'
Value received "2"

Read the size of the disk (change the 2 with the partition number previously read):

Disk /dev/mmcblk0p2: 1 MB, 1048576 bytes, 2048 sectors

Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes

Disk /dev/mmcblk0p2 doesn't contain a valid partition table

Size of the partition "1048576 bytes" is what we are looking for. If your printer is different substitute the different number in the commands below.

Make a backup file of the partition (change the partition number 2 if your printer is different):
dd if=/dev/mmcblk0p2 of=/usr/data/sn_mac_backup.bin

Generate the new sn_mac partition file. Make sure to update the truncate line if the partition is a size other than "1048576"

My next question is after I do all of these upgrades dose the printer think that is a real k1c as in with cloud print and everything? I did (well, ChatGPT did) and script that follows all the steps to do the K1-SE to K1C identity conversion:

I just updated today to the last official Creality Firmware and the printer was detected as a K1C and all works fine just out of the box.

What happens:

• Detects correct sn_mac partition
• Creates backup: /usr/data/sn_mac_backup.bin
• Generates modified identity file
• Writes ONLY first 512 bytes
• Reboots (optional prompt)

After reboot:

/usr/bin/get_sn_mac.sh model
# → K1C

⏪ 3. Restore original identity (if needed)

/root/k1se_to_k1c_id_only.sh --restore
Restores only the original identity block and reboots.

📸 Full printer snapshot (recommended)

Before or after conversion, capture a full recovery snapshot:

/root/k1_snapshot.sh --backup

This saves:

• Full Klipper config
• system_config.json
• Full sn_mac partition
• Compressed archive for off‑printer storage

Snapshot location:

/usr/data/printer_data/backups/K1_STATE_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS/

Went thtre the 3alkthrough, but my SN is longer then 14 hex digets and leters that exced the hex limig, like G, L and V beyond the 14

Upon updating, I lost my LED strip after it starts up

How do I reset it to my SE settings. Assume I ran through the walk through a couple times and May need to grab the files the same way we get the K1C files

I went through the walkthrough as well. Double checked to make everything was right and it was. I have similar results as previously described. LED turns on when printer is booting up then immediately turns off. Also I could not get the fans to work. Temp sensor is a KST 104NT and it’s not reading either. Seems this conversion doesn’t work anymore?

Woo hoo! Setting the sensor type under
[temperature_sensor chamber_temp]
fixed it. I should have noticed that with the original config the because the pinout under
[temperature_fan chamber_fan]
is the same "PC5"

For the record, if anybody has issues where the LED comes on as the printer is booting up then goes out (and the chamber/bed fans don't work) it's most likely due to a bad temp sensor config or hardware.

I also attached my printer.cfg, I'm using a ATC Semitec 104NT-4-R025H42G thermistor.

Also a parts list that works, although you'll probably want to get a parts with matching connectors (I cut the wires and installed proper connectors).

I had really screwed up the firmware on my original mainboard and bought a new one. It now thinks its a K1 with K1 pullys, Being able to reference your file allowed me to change mine to match. Much Help. Very Thankful. Wow

For all who read this, I bought a CFS upgrade kit and CFS.

The CFS upgrade kit comes with a USB drive with firmware on it. I decided to "roll the dice" by installing the firmware that came with the CFS upgrade kit (that was on the USB drive). I did this after following the procedures above to upgrade my K1 SE to K1C (installing addl hardware, following procedures on this thread).

Turns out the CFS upgrade firmware thinks its a K1C! Now I have a non-rooted "K1C" with CFS upgrade. After installing the upgrade the printer fully thinks its a K1C; even shows up in Creality Print and the about screen on the printer that way.

I understand the rear and side fan mounting and motherboard connection for the K1se.

Making changes to the software seems complicated.

I'm afraid of damaging the Klipper.

Ok I have been trying to figure this out on my own with just reading but have been unable to do it. I have the fans installed themestor installed and everything wired up. I have it rooted and can run some of the terminal commands but I only have a Mac and honestly I'm struggling. I usually to do this stuff all the time but I am a bit rusty. I could really use some help.

Instead of spamming the thread for help, maybe post the command and error message you're getting? The inability to understand a simple cp (copy) command does not inspire confidence. There's been a lot of low-effort posts here lately.

I have heard that Creality likes to swap the - and + on there fan connectors is this true?

Unfortunately yes found that out the hard way, blew up a fan!

I don't know if they're all like that or not but it's marked on the board plus and minus all I did was use a little tool and depressed catch pan and swap the power in the ground in the plastic plug. That way positive goes positive on the fan.

K1 (2023) is incompatible with K1C configs due to differences in pulley teeth and other hardware specifications.

Happened on this thread during a quest to convince my k1c that it is in fact a k1c and not a k1. ive tried updating the system_config file to the correct model number but it reverts back after reboot. any ideas?

Hi everyone!

Important observation about the fan2 pin for the K1 SE

This might be useful for those who can't get fan2 to work.
I tried several pins, and in the end, the one that worked for fan2 was PB0, not PB1 as often indicated in the configs.
On my board, PB1 conflicted with the prtouch_v2 system.
