Stock Klipper mesh calibrate creates mesh far above the bed

The stock Creality macros for creating a bed mesh works properly, it is centered around the bed level. But if I click "Calibrate" in the Klipper Fluidd or Mainsail the mesh is measured, but it is several mm (IIRC) above the bed. I may be wrong about the just how much offset, but it is definitely not centered around the plane of the bed.
