In reviewing our common definitions, I noticed in a PR opened October 2024 #172 that @danielhuppmann asked us if we really wanted the below methods removed:
- Peatland and Wetland Restoration:
description: restoration of peat and coastal wetlands
- Bio-Oil Storage:
description: use of bio-oil
- Mineral Products:
description: use of mineral products for carbon sequestration
- Biomass Burial:
description: burial of biomass on land
- Biomass Sinking:
description: sinking of biomass in the ocean
- Other Methods:
description: other methods not explicitly listed
There was a ton of discussion through the PR, but in the end, none I could see about the top-level question Daniel raised. Now it seems like we indeed have lost the above methods. At minimum I think we would need to re-include
- Peatland and Wetland Restoration
- Bio-Oil Storage (this could be covered in long-lived materials plastics?)
- Mineral Products (maybe, maybe not?)
- Biomass Burial
- Biomass Sinking (maybe, maybe not?)
