[Feature Request] Add ability to "backup" to network, and restore from said backup (USMT-like functionality)

We often have situations where a tech needs to wipe and restore a machine, or retain a backup of an old machine.

Describe the solution you'd like
It would be awesome if this tool would allow backing up to a DMG on a network share and then restoring from one of those backups.

Describe alternatives you've considered
Time machine backups, which are time consuming to set exclusions, etc

We have a similar need for this as well.

We are currently using Apple's Migration Assistant but have problems with it messing with user's Secure Token and I am starting to look at IBM Data Migration. The problem with both of these tools is that they only cover the scenario of moving data from an old Mac to a new Mac. However, we actually have a more frequent need to wipe/restore a computer for several reasons: Macs that are reused and moved to new owner (ex. new employee replaces the previous owner, moved to a grad student/student employee because department doesn't have the money for a brand new Mac for these types of positions), Macs that are having issues that after much troubleshooting just need to be wiped and restored to get back to a known good state.

There are backup tools like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! that can backup to file servers or external drives, but they are really designed for the average consumer doing regular daily backups for a single user. And while I know there are enterprise level backup tools like Code42 Crashplan that could cover the wipe/restore scenario but being in a higher-ed environment those are typically out of our reach due to the high cost.

IBM Data Shift is much closer to that holy grail of temporary customizable IT migrations for new computers and hopefully the customizable backups for the wipe/restore scenario in the future!?! This would really go a long way to a more consistent approach for IT admins as now we bounce around between multiple methods of moving user data based on the scenario and current issues with those scenarios.
