Getting Accounts
Much of our work is done on computing clusters, either here at UCSB or over at SLAC, and we use Indico agendas for meetings to discuss progress. This means you'll need a lightweight CERN account and possibly a Pod/SLAC computing account.
Access the account registration form here. It should only take a few minutes to set up a lightweight CERN account. Once you have an account, make sure to message the current meeting organizer and have them add you to the Indico agenda.
Access the account registration form here. You can expect to have an account set up within a couple of days following the completion of the form. Select "Highly Parallel" from the dropdown menu where the form asks for a job type. This project is not currently receiving funding from the NSF.
You can find a copy of the account registration instructions on the Confluence pages here. Setting up a SLAC computing account is a bit of an involved process and will take some patience.
- Start by registering as a new user with SLUO here. Select "Heavy Photon Search" from the dropdown menu where the form asks you to specify which experiment you will be working on. Make sure to give Tim Nelson a quick introduction via email (tknelson@slac.stanford.edu) with your supervisor in CC, as you will need to list them on the form as the SLAC spokesperson who will confirm your information.
- Once your user request has been processed with SLUO, fill out the Computer Account Request Form. Have your SID ready before filling out the request form. You can find your SID by looking it up in the SLAC Phone Book. You will need a UNIX account. A Windows account is optional but recommended. Once you have completed the form, sign and send it to Tim Nelson, who will fill out the "Additional Instructions" and "Authorization" sections.
- Get added to the SLAC listserv by emailing listserv@slac.stanford.edu with the message body "subscribe MME".
- Sign up for Confluence. To join with your SLAC account, email Natalia with your SLAC username and ask me to add you.
- You'll also need to take our cybersecurity training at some point for your computer account to function. It's fairly straightforward. But at least one LDMX person has gotten locked out of their account because their email forwarding was setup incorrectly and they did not receive the notifications that they needed to take the course. So, if you haven't taken it or received a reminder within 2 weeks of requesting your account, please check in with Natalia again.
