Ok, now that the site is starting to stabilize, I thought it would be good to add a contributor README. Comments welcome!

I don't think the first item would work because IIRC GitHub requires the repo name to be the site name (without the redirect), so GitHub wouldn't serve JuliaAstroDocs as the juliaastro.org website (again, AFAIK).

Update: yup, you called it, failed during the deploy step. Oh well, was worth a shot
