Tentative MODFLOW 6 Development Plans

MODFLOW 6.7.x

  • Add transport (MVE and MVT) support for parallel runs. Keep in mind MVR is currently available for parallel, e.g., streamflow in SFR can move from one model to its neighbor.

MODFLOW 6.8.0

  • Channel Flow Model
  • Overland Flow Model
  • Richard's Flow formulation for Node-Property Flow (NPF) Package
  • Process-Based Stream Temperature Model

Miscellaneous Ongoing Efforts

  • Creating packages from memory
  • Conductance recalculation as needed for API
  • Condense advanced package functionality into parent class

Requested New Model Types

  • Watershed Model
  • Linear Network Flow Model

Requested Features

  • XT3D by connection
  • Save state mechanism
  • Transport and CSUB compatibility #1101
  • Allow GWT IDOMAIN to be different from GWF IDOMAIN #1129
  • Add lag time to Water Mover #1170. Consider adding rudimentary options to MVT/MVE that would alter concentrations/temperatures of water passing through the MVR #1314, #2552
  • Add observation utility for GWT SSM Package #1014, #1120
  • Allow solver settings to change by stress period #589, #1001
  • Allow Initial Conditions (IC) Package to optionally read heads for subsequent periods #826
  • Steady state option for solute transport #799
  • Alternative input format for MAW, SFR, LAK, UZF #548
  • Support multiple OPEN/CLOSE statements within a PERIODDATA input block #2026
  • Support for models with GWT-GWT exchanges for (parallel) runs where GWF flow are read from file #2490
