Lab 13 - Develop A text Analysis Agent
Task - Create an Azure Language in Foundry Tools connection
Step. 2. - Connect a tool; selecting Azure Language in Foundry Tools in the Catalog and specifying the following configuration.

This lab needs an MCP Server, and it looks like Azure Language in Foundry Tools used to provide one, but now it appears you need to have your own locally hosted server for this.

This issue is affecting lab 16: Use Azure Speech in an agent as well.

According to this, the Foundry Resource should work as a remote MCP server: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/language-service/concepts/foundry-tools-agents#azure-language-mcp-server-preview

However, It fails for me

OK, so I got the Language MCP server to work - I updated the instructions - @v-vfarias, could you please test 02-language-agent.md end-to-end and verify that fixed it?

I've also updated the steps in 05-azure-speech-mcp.md to match the same pattern, but I've not fully tested it. @v-vfarias , could you also go through that and see if my guesses were right?!

I have successfully tested Lab 13 this morning and was successful. However, using the changes in Lab 16, it still fails after creating the Speech Tool this morning:

Hi @GraemeMalcolm and @SkillableKA, I have faced the same issue as the reported about the lab16, I am looking into that at the moment to see what might be the problem. Will be updating here once a solution is found.

The docs at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/foundry/agents/how-to/tools/azure-ai-speech don;t provide the URL (they tell you to fill in the parameter, but you only get that option if you enter an endpoint URL like "https://{foundry-resource-name}.cognitiveservices.azure.com/speech/mcp?api-version=2025-11-15-preview" - I assumed "speech" instead of "language" (which worked for the language MCP server); but it's not documented anywhere that I can find, so who knows?
In the meantime I'll add a note to the lab explaining that an error may occur.

@arojaspa76 the Language MCP worked last week, with updates pushed to the instructions. So far, Speech is still causing errors

The Azure Speech MCP Server connection to an Agent just worked fine for me, I followed the instructions for Lab 16 step by step and used Sweden-Central as Region for both the Microsoft Foundry Project as the Storage Account.

BTW I am not using a Virtual Lab Environment but tested in on my own Azure Subscription

Students also are able to do the Lab on their Lab Environment, so as a workaround try Sweden-Central as the Region for the Microsoft Foundry Project in stead of East-US might help.

Just retested the lab, the Speech MCP server is working well. Will be adding small updates related to UI, and closing the issue through a PR. If any issues related persists, feel free to reopen.
