[Bug] backspace key doesn't work properly

Describe the bug
When deleting non regular text, 2 backspace key strokes are needed to delete 1 character.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Open Keyboard
2. Type text with non-regular font
3. Press backspace

Expected behavior
Every backspace press removes 1 character

Android version
Android 12

Additional context
Current behavior is the "special" character turning into a questionmark (? or �) after the first press and then the questionmark getting deleted on the second press.
