Is it possible to set neogit.baseBranch via a .gitconfig file?

Can I do this

local git = require("neogit.lib.git")
git.config.set('neogit.baseBranch', 'origin/dev') --get("neogit.baseBranch")

also in a repository's .gitconfig file like

[neogit]
    baseBranch = 'origin/dev`

?

I am looking for a way to set baseBranch per repository. I am not so inclined to tinker with filepaths.
