This happens when creating a new service with a owner.

@b0564914 - I'm also unable to reproduce with terraform 1.10 + provider 1.4.0 with the following configuration

resource "opslevel_service" "example" {
  name = "example"

  owner = "platform"
}

I'm also able to seemlessly switch the owner field back and forth from ID to Alias and back with no trouble.

From the error you linked it seems like a bug where we are not saving into the state the value given in the configuration file and its always defaulting to the ID weather you gave an alias or not. We have had bugs like this in the past but I was pretty certain that we've fixed most of them.
