[Feature] Use VM Names and not just VMID

Would be good to show vm names instead of vmid in listing like for example proxmox native ha:

VM ID is not easy to recognize from which vm belongs to.
Generally speaking (and thus not related only to ha) a vm name is much more readable.

Hey @buzzzo — agree VM names are more readable than IDs, no argument there. To scope this properly though I'd need a bit more from you:

• Where exactly do you want to see VM names instead of VMIDs? HA view only, or across the board — replication, backup, tasks, alerts, etc.? Screenshots of the specific spots that bug you are the easiest way to scope this.
• Both, or replace? — some people want the ID kept visible too (e.g. my-web-01 (101)) so they can still cross-reference with the Proxmox UI. Others just want the name. Which flavor?
• PegaProx version you're on.

The PBS/backup card with vm/101 labels is a known friction point and @cberr2024 brought it up in #309 too — worth checking if that's what you meant there specifically.

No commitment on when we'd pick this up — we'll look into it once the concrete spots are pinned down. Self-assigning.

Note: I've seen that also in pbs you will see just VMID.
Generally speaking each reference to a vm in the web ui should be referred as vm name and not just vmid.
You could either combine the two info (vmid/vmname) or just vm name that when hoovering with mouse it display vmid.

Hey @buzzzo, looked at it end-to-end. The Proxmox / PBS APIs reference VMs purely by VMID in exactly the contexts where you'd want the names — HA resources (sid: 'vm:101'), replication tasks, backup job logs, PBS namespaces. They don't expose names in those endpoints at all, and orphan references (deleted VMs that still have HA/backup metadata) wouldn't have a name to resolve anyway.

We could overlay names in the dashboard / VM-detail views where the live VM list is already cached, but a cross-cutting "names everywhere" rewrite would mean maintaining a stale-prone cluster-wide VMID→Name cache for cosmetic gain — not worth the maintenance load.

If you really want VM names exposed in these contexts (HA / replication / backup / PBS), the right place to file is the Proxmox upstream — they'd need to add name fields to those API endpoints. We can't put what isn't there. Happy to revisit once the upstream API exposes it.

Closing as not-planned for the broad scope. If you'd like to file a narrower ticket specifically against the dashboard or HA tab (where we already have the live list loaded), that one's actionable.

I understand your point but surely not having VM names in various web UI views makes pegaprox look and feel less attractive for enterprise usage.

@buzzzo Indeed but still this is a PROXMOX Technical Limitation THEY need to actively to something about it.

THEY need to expose it with there API. WE can't change anything here as long as THEY don't move.

Back to the topic: would be useful to href the vmid (in this case in the ha view but more generally wherever a vmid occurs) to link it to a vm details page ?
In this way you simply point the user to the right place without change what the proxmox api send back to pegaprox.
