Consider the GPL

Right now someone could take this game, maybe modify it a bit, and then release it under a proprietary license. The GPL would prevent this kind of a thing from happening legally.

This reminds me of the AppGet fiasco with windows.
Long story short, they copied his (Keivan Begi's) package manager, and rebranded it as WinGet.

This was brought up several years ago, back then I had a plan to split it into the core engine, and the ui and mod files.
The core engine would be less restrictive LGPL, the UI and mod files GPL.

This would give the engine a bit more flexibility if someone wanted to use it to make a for profit game with their own ui and mod files.

I think GPL is a bit tooo restrictive for the entire project.

I think LGPL is okay. Luanti uses the LGPL and it has a very clear engine/game separation, but the "main game" and engine are both LGPL. I would probably lean towards doing the same for this project for simplicity, since going from LGPL to GPL is easy, but GPL to LGPL isn't as straightforward. What I mean is, we would have to be careful not to move things between the game code and engine code if it was engine LGPL/game GPL. I think, I'm not a lawyer.

Discussions around this on discord, the plan is to:

• Move the OrbitalMath project out and set that to LGPL to make it more accessable/open/usable.
• Set the main pulsar4x project to GPL, which will include the orbital math project.

(Is this what everyone is happy with?)
we need to update the master branch, and I want to get this (and some other things) sorted before we do that though.

I've not yet deleted the code from the main pulsar4x and added the OrbitalMath.dll, or changed the licence on the main project.
likely we'll create a nuget packge from orbitalMath and use that in the main pulsar4x project.
