Interview Experience 31 (Intern & Job)

sggarg edited this page Aug 13, 2017 · 1 revision

There were two written rounds, consisting of firstly 30 tech-aptitude questions, with debugging and output based questions. The second written round was a coding one, consisting of two questions. There were three rounds of PI's. Consisting of Tech, HR, and AA (As Appropriate) respectively. ##Tech round

  • Convert a Linked list to a stack in a single parse.
  • Swap two numbers in a single line without using an extra variable.
  • The interviewer created multiple classes with intertwined inheritance and functions, with a few of them overloading. Finally he created objects of classes and called the functions, none of which belonged to the class the object belonged to. Asked me to dry run the code flow.
  • There were more questions, but I hope you get the jist. I can't seem to remember more from the round.

##HR Round The questions were situation based and on the work I had done. They asked about the work I had done in IITKGP, and a situation that considering I was a head of a 10 people strong developer team, and there was an old networked printer, not consisting of inherent request queue support. So how to resolve the problem so that the developers can send requests and await their job completion. Rest was normal conversation out of which nothing stands out.

##As Appropriate Round (Skype) The senior manager assessed why do I want to join the company. Asked me to explain OOPS to him considering he's from a non-tech background. Asked me why do I believe in the Microsoft ecosystem, even after contributing actively in Linux (Funda time!). Also asked the best way Microsoft can move forward, if it leaves the .NET, ASPX software stack.

These guys take what you have written in your CV seriously. So please have a proper explanation ready on each and every point in your CV.

##Job Interview:

  • Since it was a PPO interview, majority of the questions were based on the project that I had done there. And also the understanding of the Microsoft tech-stack that I gained there. There were two rounds, Tech and HR. Again, the tech guy asked me core fundamentals on which my project was based (Microsoft SQL Server and Database offloading in Windows 8,8.1,10 apps).
  • Along with a couple of interns, I had developed a virtual reality game based on the classical Battleship game, which was also asked in detail during both the interviews.
  • The HR interview was usual, trying to assess my knowledge and eagerness to join the company and be of value.
