Objective
This epic aims to implement Shigellosis disease surveillance to SORMAS by introducing new disease and its entities. The implementation will support case management, laboratory notifications, epidemiological investigations, and ECDC/WHO reporting.
Background
Shigellosis is an acute diarrheal illness caused by enteroinvasive Shigella species — a gram-negative, facultative anaerobic bacillus — capable of producing severe intestinal inflammation and a clinical spectrum ranging from watery diarrhea to full dysentery. NCBI
Shigella belongs to the Enterobacteriaceae family and comes in four serogroups:
- Shigella dysenteriae (Group A)
- Shigella sonnei (Group D)
- Shigella flexneri (Group B)
- Shigella boydii (Group C)
Shigellosis is a mandatorily notifiable disease in Luxembourg
High-Level Explanation
- Case management:
- Set the default case classification as "Not yet classified".
- Update Shigellosis specific pre-existing conditions.
- Symptoms:
- Display the Shigellosis related symptoms(Diarrhoea, Bloody diarrhoea, Fever, Abdominal pain and others).
- Display the disease specific complications(Dehydration, Sepsis, Seizures, and others)
- Samples
- Display the disease specific samples(Blood, Cerebrospinal fluid, stools, Pus and other) and pathogen tests(culture, isolation, PCR, NAAT, sero-grouping, WGS, AST).
