We are experiencing intermittent performance issues with Safe Exam Browser on a specific hardware platform and would appreciate any guidance or confirmation as to whether this is a known issue.
Environment details:
Hardware:
Lenovo ThinkCentre M80q Gen 3
Intel 12th Gen Core i5-12500 Processor @ 1.9GHz
16GB RAM
1TB SSD
Operating System:
Windows 11 Education
SEB Version:
Safe Exam Browser 3.10.1.864
Issue observed:
SEB can take a significantly long time to launch and reach the Moodle exam page.
The delay appears during the browser initialisation stage after the Moodle handoff/authentication process.
In some cases the launch can appear to hang for several seconds to a few minutes before the browser window fully loads. On some occasions it takes much longer.
Environment specifics:
Moodle integration with SEB
Cosign single sign-on authentication in place
Tanium and Cortex XDR endpoint security software installed
All driver and BIOS updates have been installed.
What we have observed:
The issue appears isolated to the Lenovo M80q Gen 3 systems with Intel 12th Gen i5-12500 processors.
We are not seeing the same behaviour on:
Intel 11th Gen i5 systems
Some newer Intel Ultra 5 systems
All systems are running comparable Windows 11 Education builds and similar security tooling.
Troubleshooting already carried out:
We have tested excluding Safe Exam Browser processes from Cortex XDR scanning/inspection.
We have also added Tanium-related processes to the permitted applications/exceptions within SEB.
These changes did not significantly improve the issue.
Tested on a vanilla installation of Windows 11 and still seeing the same issues.
Relevant log observations:
SEB logs show the configuration request initially receiving HTML content rather than a direct SEB configuration payload.
Browser initialisation appears to be the stage where most delay occurs.
No crashes or explicit SEB errors are observed.
We would appreciate any advice on:
Whether there are any known compatibility or performance issues with Intel 12th Gen processors
Whether Chromium-based initialisation delays have been reported on this hardware generation
Any recommended exclusions or configuration adjustments for endpoint security products such as Cortex XDR or Tanium
Any additional logging or diagnostic options you would recommend
