INT. FOUNTEXT EDITOR - DAY
Welcome to Fountext! This document was created for you to experience both the basics of the Fountain screenplay format and the awesome features this editor offers.
Right now, click on this icon at the top left of the screen:
SCENES [☰]
The floating panel that opens will list all the locations in your script. When you click on one, the paper will glide smoothly to that exact scene.
EXT. SCENE HEADINGS - NIGHT
Scene headings start with classic abbreviations like "INT.", "EXT.", "INT/EXT.", and "I/E.". Fountext automatically renders scene headings in a **bold** font for you in the background, just like this line.
Character names are always written in ALL CAPS. Fountext also automatically bolds character names to make it easier to scan for dialogue on the page.
WRITER
(Excitedly)
I'm just typing plain text without using any formatting buttons, and everything is aligning perfectly to the American industry standard!
DEVELOPER
(Smiling)
Absolutely! Our custom C++ typesetting engine running in the background calculates the millimeter-perfect position of every letter dozens of times a second as you type.
To go back to writing action after dialogue, all you have to do is press Enter twice and start your sentence. The text will snap right back to the left margin.

INT/EXT. PDF EXPORT AND TITLE PAGE - DAY
As you can see, hybrid location uses like "INT/EXT." are also seamlessly detected and bolded.
You can instantly create your script's title page by clicking on the very top of the paper (Page 1) or by typing tags like "Title:", "Author:" at the beginning of your text. Fountext clears these tags from the screen and aligns them sharply right in the dead center of the cover.
WRITER
So, how do I export this masterpiece?
DEVELOPER
To get an industry-standard, text-selectable, vector PDF, simply click on File > Export as PDF from the top menu. Or, you can just use the CTRL + E shortcut.
If you glance at the footer in the bottom right corner while navigating the page, you can instantly track your current page, total page count, and character count.
Happy writing!
