How do we set a content type as a default in a list or library?

I am able to add content types to library. The removeContentType works too but not when there are documents that exists using the content type. The Site design run status simply shows that the action/subaction was successful.

Also can we set a Content type as default? or Can we reorder content types in a list/library?

This is also true when using the GUI. You'll have to remove any use of the content type before been able to remove it. Includes the content of the library, but also previous version of documents, recycled document and documents in the second stage recycle bin.

For your other questions, as far as I know, there's nothing in site script to achieve that. You may delegate this a flow.
