[Feature Request]: Add Firebird support

Problem / Motivation

There are actually no tools on the market for backing up Firebird databases (https://www.firebirdsql.org/en/third-party-tools/). Firebird is still popular as a free database for domain-specific applications. This would be very useful.

Thanks for your feature request :)

Implementing a Firebird adapter comes with some notable technical challenges. The main ones being that gbak (Firebird's backup tool) needs to run locally on the database server, the Node.js ecosystem for Firebird is quite limited, and remote database discovery isn't straightforward. This makes it significantly more complex than our existing adapters.

For now, Firebird support is very unlikely to be added in the near future. If you need a solution today, you might want to check out portabase.io according to their website, they offer Firebird support.

I'll leave this issue open! If you'd like to see Firebird support in DBackup, please give this issue a 👍the more interest I see, the more likely we'll consider it down the road.

Thanks for the reply. I'm familiar with portabase.io, but I prefer using DBackup :)
You can run gbak remotely, for example: gbak -v -t -user SYSDBA -password "masterkey" dbserver:/db/warehouse.fdb c:\backups\warehouse.fbk. There are also native Node.js clients for FB, such as node-firebird-driver-native. Unfortunately, Firebird can't list databases.

I took another close look at it. It would be possible to implement, and I’ve already come up with a plan for how I would do it (from an architectural standpoint).

However, I can’t promise it will be ready in the next few weeks. But I’ll definitely take a look at it.
