📦 Deployment Overview

Charter Network Engineering • Field operations • Diagnostics workflow

This document outlines the end‑to‑end deployment and operational workflow used in Charter field engineering.
It covers customer issue intake, field assessment, RF diagnostics, DOCSIS tuning, validation, and reporting.

🚀 Deployment Stages

1. Customer Issue Intake

  • Customer reports service degradation or intermittent connectivity
  • Trouble ticket generated
  • Remote diagnostics performed when possible

2. Field Dispatch & Assessment

  • Technician arrives on‑site
  • Confirms symptoms with customer
  • Checks signal levels, noise, and installation quality

3. RF Diagnostics

  • Spectrum analysis
  • Upstream/downstream impairment detection
  • OFDM/OFDMA profile evaluation

4. DOCSIS Tuning & Optimization

  • Adjust levels, replace components, correct tilt
  • Validate modem bonding and CMTS interactions
  • Apply tuning workflows from:
    DOCSIS-Tuning-Workflow.md

5. Validation & Testing

  • Throughput tests
  • SNR/MER verification
  • Confirm service restoration with customer

📊 Metrics Analyzed

Metric Category Purpose Examples
📡 RF Performance Metrics Validate signal health and noise levels SNR, MER, upstream/downstream power
⚙️ DOCSIS Metrics Ensure modem stability and throughput Correctables/uncorrectables, ranging, channel bonding
🛠️ Field Operations Metrics Improve service delivery and reduce repeat calls First‑attempt resolution, call volume, escalation rate
📊 Infrastructure Health Track plant reliability and upgrade impact Amplifier performance, node health, noise sources
😊 Customer Experience Metrics Measure service quality improvements Resolution time, satisfaction indicators

🔐 Field Service Workflow

(This replaces the “Authentication Workflow” section used in other repos while keeping the same structural slot.)

Step Action Purpose
1 Receive customer issue and validate symptoms Establish baseline understanding
2 Perform RF and DOCSIS diagnostics Identify noise, interference, or signal loss
3 Inspect physical infrastructure Locate damaged cables, connectors, or plant components
4 Apply corrective actions and tune signal levels Restore optimal performance
5 Validate improvements with RF and DOCSIS metrics Confirm stability and service quality
6 Document findings and close service record Ensure traceability and future reference

🔧 Technical Workflows

📡 DOCSIS Optimization Process

Step Action Tools Used
1 Assess current signal levels and quality metrics RF meters, DOCSIS diagnostics
2 Identify noise sources and signal degradation Spectrum analyzers
3 Tune amplifiers and adjust signal levels Field equipment
4 Validate improvements with signal testing Signal meters
5 Document baseline and final metrics Field reports
