CUDA works, cuInit, cuMemAlloc, cuModuleLoadDataEx, cuModuleGetFunction, and cuLaunchKernel all succeed repeatedly. Crash happens after several successful cycles:

Hmpf.. Not really sure if this is cuda related tbh. I have only the DEMO version ofc, but when trying to "run" any of the two first demos available, i get a little message "compiling" and then the same crash. This is when using Steam and same GE-Proton10-34.
I also have the same driver, but i dont have a 5080 card.. i have 4070Ti.

But, i ran the sst.exe from a regular wineprefix, and that seemed to work as it should. I do not know how many "several successful cycles" is tho? I started various "games" from the 2 variations that is available in the Demo version of this, and it did not seem to have too much issues there.

Why i was completely unable to run this from Steam, i dunno?

Game itself seems to be DX9, and use CUDA 10.x, although i am a bit unsure what this "game" is for... maybe some interesting trips when using LSD? 🤣

Small update:
I managed to run the game with ProtonExperimental, AND i found i way to crash it instantly.

Select: New Game -> Planet -> Star -> 100K
Then i select the move "tool" - DRAG

Attempting to interact with said star causes a crash within seconds.

Well.. i think i found out why it works with wine for me... For some reason, this "game" uses 3x the amount of vram (buffers?) when launched using GLX.
Wine-10.17+ uses EGL by default, and a fresh wineprefix running this Demo will use around 3-3.5GB vram. However, if i disable EGL and use the old GLX renderer, it will use 8-8.5GB vram. Even tho this is not > max vram, it seems to cause allocation errors randomly and crash.

MY problem, is that i seem to not be able to launch Steam games using EGL for some reason (Ubuntu distro crap possibly).

And thus.. the game uses 8+GB vram, and is prone to frequent crashing with some cudaErrorIllegalAddress failure. Possibly due to some memory mapping crap that fails under GLX. After running 2-3 of those demos, i easily use 10-12GB vram, where the EGL version only uses 3-3.5GB..

Oki.. so Proton has this setting:
ValveSoftware/wine@c3202e9

WINE_USE_EGL=1 enables EGL for proton... But it does not fix the issue for me when using steam.

I tested using "ProtonExperimental" as a standalone wine in a WINEPREFIX, and that works as expected.. using WINE_USE_EGL=1, the demo uses 3-3.5GB vram and does not seem to crash. Bare in mind, i have not tested "for hours", but seeing memory usage < half is quite telling.

So, its going bonkers when running under steam.. EGL or GLX does not seem to matter. Steam uses custom sandboxed library handling+++. Not sure what i can do with that atm, as it does not seem to be a nvcuda error in itself. Something iffy is happening with buffer creation when running under steam, and that is out of my control i would say.
