Lowering emulation speed wih "-" key can occassionally hang BizHawk for some time

Whenever you use a "-" key, the emulation speed decreases, but because of how frames are processed, it can occassionally hang BizHawk for some time.

What he means is if you slow to speed 1%, the emulator becomes unusable. Just try it.

The only thing I can see wrong with 1% speed is that the input display is redrawn infrequently (as is the rest of the OSD). Gonna need more info from OP.

edit: Lua Console feels unresponsive too.

This I think is more a side effect with how emulation speed is tied with the speed of main loop, which does both message pumping and emulation. Speedup the emulator and you end up spamming message pumping, slow it down and you slow down message pumping, the slower that is, less responsive the emulator becomes.

With this, I wonder if we could have some smarter clock throttling, which tries to split up a sleep multiple goes in case it's slower than full speed and thus allows message pumping to happen at a more responsive rate. (this could overall be needed in some cases already even with "100% speed" considering we have MAME now and some of those Arcades can have rather low framerates, which would make the emulator much less responsive than expected)
