Show full value of a cell when you click on it

Issue

When a cell has more text in it than fits into the displayed width of the column, the overflowing text is not visible. There is no way (at least not that I have found so far!) to see the full value of this text without either making the column wide enough, or copying the value from the cell and pasting it into another application.

Enhancement proposed

Add a display area above or below the toolbar that shows the value of the currently selected cell.

There's the Edit > Edit Cell … menu command, mapped to ⌘ + ⌅. On keyboards without a number block, press fn + ⌘ + ↵ (Function + Command + Return). This opens the cell in its own window, showing the full content (and also allowing to edit it).
