Hi, thank you for reporting and sorry for the late reply. This is because the textures are encrypted (the first ~2048 bytes), and I currently don't support decrypting. I plan to add decrypting in a later version (technically it's already supported in the latest commits, but there are other WIP features).

For a workaround, please use Telltale Explorer to extract the DDS file. Then use it in the DDS -> D3DTX conversion process.

Generate the json file by converting the d3dtx to dds. Then, put it in the same place where your modded dds texture is located. Make sure the texture has the same name as the json. Finally - convert to dds to d3dtx.

Follow the tutorial in the wiki. If the issue still persists, then you would have to wait for the newer version

So I got this error when trying to preview the modified .d3dtx, I guess I have to wait for the new version

This is unfortunate. I checked the current writer - there is indeed a bug.
There's no timeline for the new version at the moment, since it depends on 2-3 other projects. Sorry
