PC gaming is currently locked to those who can afford expensive hardware. We believe games are one of the most powerful artistic mediums we have — and that everyone should have access to them. With over 3 billion Android devices in circulation, we are changing that.
GameNative is built in the open and improved by a global community of contributors. Our goal is to make PC gaming on Android a first class experience — bringing Steam, Epic, GOG and other storefronts natively to Android devices without streaming.
These are the things we are actively working on:
- Android 35 support and Google Play launch — full compatibility with the latest Android SDK and distribution through Google Play
- External launchers — getting Rockstar, EA and other launchers working reliably
- Online play — making online multiplayer work for Steam and other launchers
- Steam cloud saves — reliable cloud save support for Steam games
- Non-Steam store support — downloads, installs, DLC and deletions working well for Epic, GOG and Amazon
- Epic and GOG — cloud saves working reliably for both, EOS DRM working for Epic
- Steam Input — fixing reliability issues across games including No Man's Sky and others
- Controller — making PC games genuinely playable on a touchscreen, including layout, comfort and also local multiplayer support
- External devices — reliable support for keyboards, mice and other external peripherals
- External storage — reliable external storage with fast downloads and fast game launches
- Code quality — reducing complexity and duplication, especially across Epic, GOG and Amazon integrations
- Game compatibility — more games working out of the box without manual tweaks
- Device support — ensuring GameNative works great across a wide range of Android devices, chipsets and form factors
Where we are taking GameNative over the longer term:
- Performance and thermals — increasing performance and reducing heat during extended play sessions to make mobile gaming more viable
- Supporting indie devs — discovering and recommending indie PC games, ensuring they work great on GameNative, and helping indie developers reach a new audience on Android
- Upstream contributions — actively contributing to Proton, Wine, FEX, Box64, DXVK, VKD3D and other components that make PC gaming on Android possible
- Hardware partnerships — working with manufacturers of gaming handhelds, phones and tablets to make device-specific optimizations
- Steam Deck alternative — making GameNative a full replacement for Steam Deck-like devices on Android
Before opening a PR, start a discussion and get alignment first. If you have access to #code-changes, post there. Otherwise open a thread in #development. PRs without prior discussion will be closed.
If you're unsure whether your idea is in scope, discuss it first before writing any code. We genuinely appreciate every contribution — please understand that not everything will align with the current direction of the project.
