Certain automations make use of *'s in tags. Two that jump to mind immediately are Gradient By Character and Autoswapper. It would be nice if there was an additional menu where you could add exceptions to removing tags that contain an asterisk so those don't get accidentally wiped sometimes.
I think it's safe to just ignore all the tags within curly braces that have a * (or otherwise user-defined key(s)) at the very start, as that's how those automations generate/use them.
