• email alerts (let users choose what kind of info they want to be notified about?)
• feedback to author of paper (not necessarily the user who uploaded it)
• friends (or people in your group) givin ga thumbs up/down for the paper, so user can see recommended papers in a feed
• not sure if you have this already: a retweet function. e.g., if Simon uploads a paper, since I'm friends with Simon, I'd get it (I might be an author or might not), and I'd like my friends to see it. A bit different than a recommendation if I'm an author.
