Black ui and sizing issues when using wine

Describe the bug

When trying to use undertale mod tool with wine or proton some UI elements are gone and i am unable to resize the window to make it bigger

Reproducing steps

use the latest version of wine or proton
open undertale mod tool GUI
try to resize or click on any of the drop down options

This is a issue on all versions of undertale mod tool

You should check out https://gist.github.com/WilsontheWolf/0eca47bf15f3a1811d03db93af960df5, although I have heard that using X11 also works.

In general, Wine issues are out of our control, though, so I'll close this for now. Feel free to update on what works for you, though.

Wine bugs are out of our control. We hope to eventually rewrite the UI in a cross-platform manner, but this is not actionable for us right now.

This is a pretty old question, but I want to throw in my 2 cents. For me, the solution is to set these environment variables to disable hardware acceleration:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d9=d;d3d10=d;d3d11=d" wine UndertaleModTool.exe

Maybe it's worth writing a script to automatically install and configure UTMT through wine on Linux? Questions about this arise here quite often.

u can also use the avalonia port with works natively on linux #2126

in my experience it has been a lot better than wine

Instead of disabling hardware accelecation you can set renderer to gdi or vulkan with WINE_D3D_CONFIG="renderer=gdi"/WINE_D3D_CONFIG="renderer=vulkan". Avalonia port is not feature complete right now, so we'll have to cope with Wine for some time.

I've made https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/undertalemodtool-bin that I use personally, it also has file associations for data.win and data.unx to open them with DE's context menu.

In my experience, it's better not to use vulkan for rendering in wine (especially in versions older than wine-10). It works great on modern distributions and systems, but is bad when it comes to rendering on an integrated graphics. That's why I advised using

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d9=d;d3d10=d;d3d11=d" wine UndertaleModTool.exe
