Windows XP is an obsolete operating system and is NO LONGER SUPPORTED by Microsoft.

USE THIS VM FOR:

  • Legacy software
  • Old games
  • Educational / historical purposes

DO NOT USE FOR:

  • Internet browsing
  • Personal data
  • Modern software

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Host Computer:

  • Pentium 4 / Athlon XP or better (modern CPUs OK)
  • 512 MB RAM minimum (1 GB recommended)
  • Virtualization enabled in BIOS

Software Needed:

  • VirtualBox / VMware / QEMU
  • Windows XP Installation CD or ISO
  • Valid Windows XP Product Key

RECOMMENDED VM SETTINGS

CPU: 1 Core Memory: 512 MB (MAX 1024 MB) Hard Disk: 10–20 GB (IDE) Video: 16–32 MB VRAM Audio: SoundBlaster / AC97 Network: DISABLED (IMPORTANT)


INSTALLATION STEPS

  1. Create a NEW virtual machine
  2. Select OS Type: "Windows XP (32-bit)"
  3. Mount Windows XP ISO or CD
  4. Boot VM and follow setup instructions
  5. Enter your VALID product key
  6. Complete installation
  7. (Optional) Install Guest Additions

SECURITY WARNING!!!

!!! WINDOWS XP IS NOT SECURE !!!

  • Disable networking
  • Do NOT log into real accounts
  • Do NOT connect USB drives with important data
  • Use snapshots before testing software

SUGGESTED USE CASES

  • Old PC games
  • Legacy business software
  • Opening ancient file formats
  • Software preservation
  • Offline malware research

KNOWN ISSUES

  • No modern web browsers
  • Poor USB support
  • Limited graphics acceleration
  • Many modern programs will NOT run
